Problem
When logging into your Murray State account, you select the "Remember me for 30 days" option with Duo Two-Factor Authentication, but your browser continues to prompt you with Duo each time you log into your account.
Cause
The "Remember me" function for Duo 2FA relies on your browser's saved cookies. If you are selecting the "Remember me for 30 days" but your browser still prompts you with Duo 2FA, it's likely that your browser is blocking third-party cookies or that your browser is set to clear cookies when windows are closed.
Solution
Depending on your browser, here are some settings you can check or update. Please note that browser settings could change when updates occur, so you may need to repeat this process in the future.
Chrome
- Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots icon in the upper right corner, then click Settings.
- In the left side menu, select Security and Privacy.
- From the "Privacy and security" section, select Cookies and other site data.
- Under the "General settings" section, make sure "Block third-party cookies" is not enabled. If it's enabled, you have two options:
- Select "Block third-party cookies in Incognito" OR
- Scroll down to the "Customized behaviors" section and click the Add button next to "Sites that can always use cookies." In the box that pops up, enter [*.]duosecurity.com and then click the Add button.
- Also make sure that the "Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows" is not enabled. If it is enabled, click the slider to disable it.
- You may need to restart your browser after making any changes.
Firefox
- Open Firefox and click the three horizontal lines icon in the upper right corner, then select Settings.
- In the left side menu, select Privacy & Security.
- In the "Cookies and Site Data" section, make sure "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" is unchecked.
- You may also want to include Duo cookies in the exceptions. To do this, click click Manage Exceptions...
- Enter the following: https://duosecurity.com
- Select Allow, then Save Changes.
- You may need to restart your browser for changes to take effect.
Safari
Safari does not have an option to add individual exceptions for sites. You will need to enable third-party cookies on Safari to allow Duo Security to remember your two-step login:
- Select the Safari drop-down menu from the top menu bar.
- Select Preferences...
- Click Privacy tab.
- Make sure that "Block all cookies" is unchecked or set to Never.
- You may need to restart your browser for changes to take effect.
If your browser is not listed, please consult your web browser's support pages for allowing third-party cookies.
