"Remember me for 30 days" option for myGate 2FA

For convenience on computers you use most frequently, like your office or home computer or laptop, myGate 2FA has a "Remember me for 30 days" option! This option is available for users after they have successfully enrolled in myGate Two-Factor Authentication the very first time. It will first appear the next time you login to myGate, or any other system using your myGate credentials.

NOTE: If you have myGate 2FA set to automatically call, text, or send you a push, you may need to hit "Cancel" in the lower right corner of the login screen.

Clicking this checkbox and then successfully authenticating into myGate will allow that specific browser on that specific computer to remember you for 30 days, passing you directly into myGate after entering your username and password. 

If during this 30-day window you need to add/remove a device or update your enrolled device settings, you'll need to use a browser that hasn't been set to remember you, or use a private browsing (incognito) session. To open a private browsing session, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows/Chrome), Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer) or Command+Shift+N (Mac).

Things to know about about the 30 day option

  • If you clear your browser cookies, this will cause your browser to forget the "Remember me for 30 days" option. The next time you access myGate on that browser, you will need to check the box for the "Remember me for 30 days" option again.
  • MSU highly recommends you do NOT use this option on any public computer (such as in a lab or publicly-accessible area), on a friend's computer, or any computer you rarely access.
  • In most computer labs on campus, the "Remember me for 30 days" option will not work. Most of the lab computers are configured so that any data/files or user preferences will be erased as soon as you log off that computer for security purposes.
