Adding YuJa to Your Canvas Course

Credentials and System Requirements

 

YuJa should be accessed through courses on the Canvas system. By accessing YuJa tools and materials through Canvas, you will not need to use a separate YuJa user name and password.

To record lecture capture videos, the YuJa Software Station must be downloaded to your personal machine. For computers that are MSU property and require admin rights to install software, please contact your college's Technology Coordinator to request the YuJa Software Station to be downloaded and installed. They can access the YuJa Software Station in Tech Files.

Flash must be enabled on your web browser. If prompted to enable Flash while using YuJa, you will see a list of web browser logos. Click on the logo for your web browser to view instructions for enabling Flash.

To access YuJa, log in to one of your courses on Canvas. You should see YuJa as a left-side menu option. While you and your student can access your YuJa materials through this link, you may wish to alter your course design by hiding the left-side menu option, adding a YuJa link to a Module, or embedding YuJa material in a page. Choose the option or a combination of options that work best for you.

Add YuJa to a Module

  1. Navigate to the course you want to update.
  2. In the left-side menu, click Modules.
  3. Add YuJa to an existing module, OR create a new module.

 

To add YuJa to an existing module:

  1. Locate the module that you wish to add YuJa to.
  2. At the top-right of that module, click the “+” icon.
  3. Choose External Tool from the “Add” menu.
  4. Scroll past the different applications to the URL option. (Do NOT click on the YuJa app.)
  5. Insert this URL: https://my.yuja.com/LMSEntry.jsp
  6. Leave the checkbox labeled “Load this tool in a new tab” blank. (Do not select the checkbox.)
  7. Click the Add Item button.
  8. Once you have added YuJa to a module, publish the changes.

To create a new module for YuJa:

  1. Click on the + Module button near the top right.
  2. Name the module “YuJa”.
  3. Follow steps 2-7 above to add the YuJa External Tool to your new module.
  4. Remember to publish both the YuJa link and the YuJa module to make them visible to students.
     

Add YuJa content to Announcements, Assignments, and Discussions through the YuJa Media Chooser button

The YuJa Media Chooser is available in all WYSIWIG or “what you see is what you get” editors available through Canvas, including Announcements, Assignments, and Discussions.

The following example demonstrates how the YuJa Media Chooser button can be used to add material from your YuJa library into an Announcement.

  1. Navigate to the course you want to update.
  2. Click on Announcements in the left-side menu.
  3. Click on the + Announcement button near the top-right.
  4. Click on the YuJa Media icon in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar.
    1. If you do not see the YuJa logo in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar, click on the “More External Tools” icon (gray V) in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar.
    2. You will see the YuJa Media button displayed in the drop-down list of options.
    3. Click on the YuJa Media button.
  5. Choose the desired video from the YuJa Course Channel.
  6. When you select the video, it will appear in the post window.
  7. Complete the announcement as desired (provide Title, Description, etc.)
  8. Click on the Save button at the bottom to finish posting your announcement.
