Body

This is a quick guide to the migration from on premise phone system to WebEx Calling, a cloud service, occurring early 2026.

ARTICLE QUICK ACCESS:

What to Expect During Migration?

An email or communication will be sent indicating when your group/area/building will migrate to the new platform. Including instructions on what to do on Day 1.

  • Migrations will occur outside of normal business hours
  • During migrations phones will reboot a few times
  • Calls will be briefly unavailable for the numbers being moved

What Happens on the Day After Migration?

On Day 1, users with voicemail boxes will need to set your PIN and record any appropriate greetings. Unfortunately, these will not be able to be migrated over into the new system.

The default password or pin for all new accounts on the Murray State voicemail system is MSU1 or (006781). During the first login, you will be taken through an automated setup process where you will be prompted to record a greeting or name and reset your password. Once you complete the setup you will not hear it again.

For forgotten voicemail passwords, or if a mistake is made, please use the "Voice Mail Support" service request for assistance.

Setup Voicemail

  1. Press the Voicemail softkey
  2. Enter the default PIN of 006781
  3. Change your PIN to one of your choosing
  4. Cannot be the phone’s extension or any part of the phone number
  5. Minimum of 6 Digits
  6. Maximum of 30 Digits
  7. Cannot repeat digits, have consecutive digits, or reverse patterns
  8. Record your Voicemail Greeting

Perform a Test Call

If you chose, you may test a call to and from your another phone or place an off campus call to ensure all is working as expected.

Are There Any Differences?

Overall, phones will work as normal but there are a few cosmetic and functional differences with WebEx Calling.

Directory access

  • Requires an additional button press
  • Press the button selecting category and select the personal or WebEx directory
  • For Directories and Call Logs, press the (*) Information and Setting button then Recents to access the call log menus

Screen Timeout

  • The main screen on 8851 phones will go dark when idle. Calls can still be placed and received, the screen will wake up on a button press.
  • Adjustable in a future update

Screen Background

  • Screen Backgrounds may be different after the migration

Additional options on the soft button including new functionality

What about Remote Phone Access or Jabber?

WebEx VoIP Installers and Instructions

Once migrated, the Jabber app will no longer work for the migrated phone numbers. You will need to install the WebEx Calling Application instead. This applies to both mobile devices and computers.

  1. Uninstall the Jabber Application
  2. Contact the service desk or your technician if you need assistance
  3. Download and install the WebEx Calling Application
  4. Sign into the WebEx Application
  5. The sign in will be your Murraystate login, NOT the previous Jabber credentials
  6. Verify your phone number

In testing we have found the WebEx application is more stable and user friendly than Jabber

What if There is a Problem with my Phone After Migration?

If there is a problem post migration with either the phone functioning or missing features, we ask that a ticket be put in for the affected phone number(s) and we will address it as soon as possible.
