Beginning June 27, 2016, MSU will implement an email-validation system using SPF filters designed to detect email spoofing. Email spam and phishing often use forged "from" addresses, so publishing and checking SPF records are considered to be anti-spam techniques.
Users may see [POSSIBLE SPAM] in the subject line of some emails, which may indicate that the from address is not valid. However, we recommend that users read the email carefully to determine the validity of the email. If the email appears to be spam, the user need only delete the email.

What are SPF filters/records?
An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain.
