Scheduling and Recording Meetings in Zoom for Students

Note: This set of instructions is only necessary for creating an account to be used for scheduling your own meetings outside of a Canvas course. You do NOT need to set up an account to participate in meetings scheduled by your instructor within a Canvas course. 


To get started with Zoom, you will first need to go to murraystate.zoom.us and login with your existing myGate username and password

Accessing your MSU Zoom account:

  1. Go to murraystate.zoom.us. 

  2. Click on “Sign In” and follow the prompts to log in with your existing myGate username and password.

 

Scheduling and Hosting a Meeting:

  1. Login to murraystate.zoom.us and click “Schedule a Meeting”

  2. Edit the meeting settings and information, as needed

  3. Click “Save”

  4. On the preview screen, find the Meeting URL. Copy this URL and send it to your classmates/other users you’d like to invite.

  5. When the time of the meeting comes, login to murraystate.zoom.us click on “Start” next to the meeting name under the “Upcoming Meetings” tab

 

To Join a Scheduled Meeting:

  1. Navigate to the meeting URL from the person who scheduled the Zoom meeting (the host)

  2. Click on the URL and wait to be admitted into the meeting by the host.

 

Recording Zoom Meetings to your computer (host only):

  1. As the host, you will have the option to record the Zoom meeting. You are limited to 40-minutes of meeting time.

  2. After starting the meeting, in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, press “record”

  3. Choose “Record to this Computer”

  4. When you end the meeting, the recording will save to a folder on your computer (See below).

 

Accessing Zoom recordings saved to your computer:

  1. Zoom creates a folder on your computer in which recordings of meetings are stored

  2. Open File Explorer and click on “documents” from the menu on the right-hand side

  3. Find the folder titled “Zoom”

  4. In the “Zoom” folder, click on the appropriate folder labeled with the date and time of the recording

  5. In the folder, select the .mp4 video titled similar to zoom_0.This is the video file of your meeting. You can share this via Google Drive, email, or upload it to Canvas.
