The default for Zoom meetings places any participants outside of the Murray State Zoom account in a virtual waiting room. This tutorial outlines the steps for students to follow to allow them to avoid being placed in a Zoom waiting room upon joining a meeting if the faculty is using the default setting.
Prior to each class meeting, students need to login to both Zoom and Canvas by following these steps:
Step 1: Navigate to https://murraystate.zoom.us/
Step 2: Click "Sign In"
Step 3: Sign in with your MyGate credentials (Note: this creates a basic student account in Zoom affiliated with the MSU Zoom account the first time you log in)
Step 4: Login to Canvas and click on the Zoom link in your course and click on the "Join" button for the course meeting. This will allow you to bypass the waiting room and enter the meeting without being admitted by your instructor
Basic Zoom Account Details:
- All students at Murray State are entitled to a basic Zoom account.
- For basic account users hosting a meeting with two or more users, the time limit is 40 minutes.
