Migrate RacerMail to a Gmail Account

If you leave the university or graduate, your email account will be subject to deletion based on our current email policy. If you need to keep any personal email from your RacerMail account, you can create a personal Gmail account and move your email to the new account.

Step 1: Create a personal Gmail account

if you don't already have one. Go to www.gmail.com and click on Create An Account. Proceed through the process until you have created a new email account and password.

**You may also be able to import email from your RacerMail account into Yahoo, Windows Live and other email services. Please check with your email help center for more details.

Step 2: Grant Email Access to Third-Party Apps

In order for Gmail to connect to your RacerMail account, you'll need to enable access for third-party applications. Instructions for doing so, as well as more information about this, can be found in our "Grant Email Access to Third-Party Apps" article.

Step 3: Migrate Your Email and Contacts

  1. Go to www.gmail.com and log in with the email username and password created in step 1.
  2. Click on the options "cog" icon to the right of the screen. Select Settings.
  3. Click on the Accounts and Import tab.
  4. Click on Import mail and contacts.
  5. A pop-up box will guide you through the following steps.
    1. Enter your Racermail email address (example: jdoe@murraystate.edu)
    2. Enter your Racermail email password.
    3. Pop username is your full email address (example: jdoe@murraystate.edu)
    4. Pop server address is pop.gmail.com
    5. Click edit next to Port and enter 995. Make sure Use SSL is checked.
    6. Continue through the wizard until you receive a message that the import has begun.
