NOTICE: Beginning Monday, November 14, 2022, all users of Duo will no longer have access to the “Call Me” option when authenticating. All other options are still supported.
NOTE: Your Murray State credentials provides access to most MSU sites like myGate, RacerMail, Canvas, the Service Catalog, and OUCampus.
Enrolling your initial device
On the login screen, enter your Murray State username and password.
You will see the “Protect Your Murray State University Account” information box. Click Start setup.
On the device selection screen, Murray State's recommended method is to setup the DUO mobile app on your mobile device to send you push notifications. However, on initial enrollment, make sure you choose a device that you have access to at that moment.
Choose the correct device option and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Mobile phone - Select this option for any mobile phone. This will allow you to authenticate using either the DUO mobile app, or a passcode via text message. For step-by-step instructions, view our "Setup a Mobile/Cell Phone for Duo 2FA" article. After selecting this option and entering your phone number, you will need to choose from the following options:
- iPhone - choose this if you have an iPhone running iOS 11 or higher.
- Android - choose this if you have an Android device running Android 7.0 or higher.
- Windows Phone - choose this if you have a Windows phone running 8.1 or higher.
- Other (and cell phones) - choose this if your phone's operating system does not support the DUO mobile app, or you do not wish to use the app. You will still be able to authenticate with a passcode via text message.
- Tablet - Select this option to use the DUO mobile app on a device that connects to the internet but does not support text messaging. For step-by-step instructions, view our "Setup a Tablet for Duo 2FA" article.
- Security Key - Select this option to register a USB security key for use with myGate 2FA.
- Touch ID - Select this option to use the Touch ID feature on some Macs and Macbooks running macOS.
After successfully enrolling your device for Duo Two-Factor Authentication, you can continue to myGate or Canvas, or whichever system you are accessing. However, before you finish, we highly recommend a few more steps to make Duo 2FA as easy and convenient as possible:
